On saying goodbye.
There's another topic I want to write about, but well, for now, let me write about this one.
December is typically a very busy month, especially last year. I remember 9 december last year quite clearly (not the exact date though, i had to look it up). The day before was my god daughters baptism, all-stars concert at shang and days. God knows how i managed to pull everything together. Then on that specific day, I had UP mass, rehearsal for the C5/Chiesa concert, a despedida of sorts and of course a concert. I remember specifically wearing yellow and blue.
That day was hectic to say the least. after up mass, off we went, grabbed a quick bite, then off to rehearsal. I bailed and ran off to a despedida. I know, this was highly unprofessional of me, but it was the last time I would see someone I consider one of my mentors. needless to say, i missed call time and was running late. I even got into a pretty serious car accident, wrecked both passenger side doors. But all went well, got through the day, got through the season, didn't give that day much thought... until a few days ago.
I saw on my boss' ym status that the said mentor has passed away. It was definitely expected, but still every bit as shocking and difficult. He was a great man, revered by practically all the students who were under him.
Last night, I prepared a songlist as our choir was asked to sing at a mass in his name. it was an exercise that usually takes me 5 mins, maybe less. last night though, it took me a bit longer than that. simply put, i want it to be perfect, the best that we could give.
sadly, his picture will probably be up among those to be honored in a few sundays during St. Iggy's mass. Just last year, he was honored, I'm not sure but I think it was for his 50th year or something as a Jesuit.
right now, I'm just at a loss for words. all I can really say is Thank you. Thank you Fr. Santos Mena, SJ. You will be missed.
