ALCS game 2
Sadly, this game would not be remembered for a great 1-run, complete game effort by Whitesox southpaw Mark Buehrle, but by the heads up play by A.J. Pierzynski and the questionable call by home plate umpire Doug Eddings.
In the bottom of the 9th, tied at 1, 2 outs, bases empty and a full count, Pierzynski swung at a low pitch from Kelvim Escobar for what was strike 3. This however did not become automatic, because according to HP umpire Doug Eddings, the ball hit the dirt, and as such, Pierzynski was able to take first since he was neither tagged nor thrown out. Mike Sciocia of course charged out of the dugout to question the call of the umpire, and after some conferrals, the call stood. Pierzynski (who had Ozuna Pinch Run for him after the questionable play) eventually became the winning run.
Pat Sajak says it best.
I wanted the Sox to win coz the Angels took out the Yankees, but after that,I'malmost neutral now. Mr. Scioscia, I wish you could some day end up in the Yankee organization..
On a note closer to home, i just wish Filipinos took a page out of Scioscia's book.
