goodbye monsieur zidane

Ijust got home from watching the world cup final. it was a very good game, but sadly, one i will remember as bittersweet. It was to be the last game, for flag or club for one of the greatest ball handlers i've ever seen, and it ended just a bit too early as he was sent off for head butting an Italian player. When France lost the shootout, I couldn't help but wonder how things should have, could have, would have been if The french captain just ket his composure for another 20 mins. I would love to see him receive the trophy and bring a smile to his countrymen for the next 2 months... this however will remain a dream.

This is sad to say the least. There was even talk if France won the natch, if he would be allowed to come back up to receive the trophy as the French captain. I was thinking in my head, what a freakin ripoff.. Then I got to thinking, it's not like he did that out of thin air. Earlier in the game, he already took a hard shot which brought him to the ground and busted up his shoulder; and not even a penalty was called. It's been a long night for him, and he got fed up from the extremely physical Italians. Did he deserve the red card? probably. Did the dude deserve the head butt? I definitely wouldn't say no. It's a sad way to go, but in my opinion, Zidane is still one of the greatest if not the greatest ball handler ever. After all, France was a very big underdog in the knockout rounds, and it is achievement enough that Zizu led his team and country this far. It will be very different watching Real Madrid's games without him in the center mid-field.
